Acting US Secretary of Defence Chris Miller had telephone conversations on Friday with colleagues from the UK, France, Germany and Japan. This was reported by the press service of the US military department.
In a conversation with British Minister Ben Wallace, “the importance of strong bilateral relations and a transatlantic alliance” was emphasised. The parties “discussed approaches to common global security challenges and ongoing efforts to deepen defence cooperation. The situation in the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific region was also discussed.
Miller and Annegret Kramp-Carrenbauer, Head of the German Ministry of Defence, agreed on the need to “strengthen defence cooperation”. “There is a renewed commitment to cooperation on issues of strategic importance, including joint responsibility sharing, ensuring security and stability in the Middle East,” the report says.
During the conversation with the French Minister of Armed Forces Florence Parley, in addition to strengthening transatlantic partnership, the situation in the Sahel region, ensuring security and stability in the Middle East was touched upon.
Miller and Japanese Minister of Defence Nobuo Kishi agreed to continue consultations on counteraction to coronavirus, security issues in the Indo-Pacific region, cooperation in space and cyber sphere.
US President Donald Trump retired Defence Secretary Mark Esper on 9 November and appointed Chris Miller as Acting Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre.
