The head of the Vienna police investigation team, Michael Lonegger, noted that “there was one criminal involved in this crime”.
The perpetrator of the attack in Vienna acted alone, using a licensed version of the Serbian-made AK-47 assault rifle and a Tokarev pistol (Tula Tokarev, TT) for an armed attack. This was reported on Friday by the head of the Vienna police investigative team Michael Lonegger.
“The rifle used by the criminal is a licensed version of the AK-47 of 7.62 caliber <…>, which was obviously produced in Serbia. We also know that some of the used ammunition was produced in China. The criminal’s pistol was a 7.62 caliber Tokarev self-loading pistol <…>. The ammunition used for it was produced in Serbia”, – said the police representative.
The police now also assume that “there was one criminal involved in this crime, who committed it”, added Lonegger.
The investigation continues to find out how the offender acquired the weapons and how he arrived in the center of Vienna before the attack. Lonegger added that most of the suspects involved in supporting the terrorist are Austrian citizens, among them are citizens of other countries.
“It can definitely be said that the offender acted alone at the scene. What we don’t know yet is what support he received from others. That’s the subject of the investigation”, – the investigator concluded.
