A shipwreck in the Mediterranean Sea with illegal migrants resulted in 74 deaths

A ship carrying illegal migrants crashed off the coast of Libya near the port city of Homs, killing at least 74 people.

In all, over 120 people were on board. 47 of them were rescued. People were brought ashore by the Coast Guard and local fishermen.

To date, the bodies of 31 people have been found. Rescuers are still looking for the remaining victims.
IOM notes that this year alone at least 900 people drowned in the Mediterranean Sea trying to reach Europe. Over 11,000 people who tried to leave Libya have been returned to the country.
