The Turkish Ministry of Defence is convinced that the country’s Armed Forces will be part of the peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh

Previously, the Russian and Turkish Ministries of Defence signed a memorandum on the establishment of a joint Russian-Turkish centre to control the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh in Azerbaijan.

Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar reiterated on Thursday that military personnel from the republic will participate with Russia in a peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh. The CNN Turk TV channel quotes the Minister’s statement.

“Turkey will take its place in the joint peacekeeping mission to monitor and control the implementation of the [peace] agreement [in Karabakh]”, – he said.

On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on the complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Russian Defence Ministry said on Wednesday it signed a memorandum on the establishment of a joint Russian-Turkish centre to control the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh in Azerbaijan. The presence of Turkish troops directly in the peacekeeping contingent in Karabakh is not mentioned in the context of these agreements.
