Media: the head of the US Nuclear Safety Administration resigned

According to Defense News, the cause of the incident was a clash between Lisa Gordon Hagherty and US Secretary of Energy Dan Bruyette.

Lisa Gordon-Hagerty, Head of the National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA) at the US Department of Energy, has resigned. This was announced on Friday by Defense News Weekly.

Citing unnamed sources of information, the publication specified that the cause of what happened was a year-long clash between Gordon Hagherty and US Secretary of Energy Dan Bruyette. Gordon Hagherty not only led the NNSA, but also served as Deputy Secretary of Energy. In the United States, the nuclear military complex is under the authority of the Department of Energy. Earlier this year it became known that Brouyette was attempting to cut the budget request of the NNSA. However, with the support of members of the US Congress, the Secretary’s attempts were rejected by the White House.

According to Defense News, Gordon Hagherty petitioned directly to the White House, bypassing Brouillette. The NNSA press office has not yet responded to the TASS correspondent’s request to comment on the current publication.
