The Azerbaijani armed forces shelled the cities of Stepanakert and Shushi all night, killing three civilians. This was reported on Friday by the United Armenian Information Center under the Armenian Cabinet of Ministers.

“Azerbaijani-Turkish forces kept the cities of Shushi and Stepanakert under intense rocket and artillery fire all night long. Several residential buildings were burned down in Shushi. There is destruction in the capital city of Karabakh. Rescue teams of the State Service for Emergency Situations are working in the field. According to preliminary data, three civilians have died”, – the report says.

The situation in the region escalated on September 27, and active battles began on the disputed territory. The parties report killed and wounded, including among the civilian population. Ceasefire agreements have been reached three times already, but almost immediately the parties to the conflict began to exchange accusations of violations.

Baku and Yerevan have been contesting Nagorno-Karabakh since February 1988, when the region announced its withdrawal from the Azerbaijan SSR. During the 1992-1994 armed conflict, Azerbaijan lost control over Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts.
