Republicans have prepared for Biden’s victory – The Guardian – about what awaits the Democrats in a couple of years

There could not have been better conditions for the American Democrats to win the election. They missed this opportunity and never understood why the Americans once chose Trump.

To date, the Coronavirus Pandemic has taken the lives of 235,000 Americans, at least 6 million people have fallen into poverty. The Coronavirus crisis was a great opportunity for Democrats, The Guardian writes.

“Without the Coronavirus, Trump would certainly have gotten another term and potentially destroyed an already imperfect democracy in the US for a generation or even more. It was supposed to be a landslide, and now the world has to pay for the wounds that the democratic establishment has inflicted on itself”, –  the article says.

Four years ago, Democrats preferred to comfort themselves with the thought that they were not to blame for Hillary Clinton’s defeat, that their victory was supposedly stolen by Russia. Biden also refused to offer Americans an inspiring alternative. He criticized his opponent and enjoyed the glory of Barack Obama.

The problem is that democratic elites have long refused to accept even the basic principles of social democracy. Back in the 1960s, Democrat President Lyndon Johnson launched a series of programmes to fight poverty, but the tax burden of the average American family only increased in the following years. On the other hand, taxes on American corporations were reduced. The Obama administration, although partially halting the Democrat series of failures, rescued bankers from financial collapse and removed their responsibility for what had happened. Meanwhile, the wages of ordinary Americans were being cut.

Moreover, the share of national income belonging to the American middle class declined from 62% to 43% between 1970 and 2018. But the number of billionaires has increased from 66 in 1990 to 614 today.

“The democratic establishment has proven to be politically untenable and unable to meet these challenges. The party lost to Trump in 2016, and this time at best it defeated the stillborn administration. We will all take responsibility for this failure”, –  writes The Guardian.

Biden’s presidency will be meaningless, because the Democrats could not take over the Senate. As a result, the upper house of the American Parliament will be able to block any initiative by Biden, including his green course.

“The likely presidency of Biden is being held hostage by a potentially hostile Senate and Supreme Court”, –  the article says. – “The Republicans will be able to further manipulate an already fatally compromised democratic system and in the middle of the term exploit people’s frustration with an inevitably inactive government.”
