Sandu could not explain why she canceled the study of Russian in schools in Moldova

Maia Sandu, on TV, answered the question why, as Minister of Education, she removed the Russian language from the list of compulsory subjects.

Sandu tried to explain this decision by the fact that she wanted to give the parents of schoolchildren the right to choose which languages their children should learn.

“We decided to give parents the right to choose. This means that parents must decide for themselves which languages their children should learn. This is normal practice”, – she said.

At the same time, Sandu confirmed that many parents have chosen to study the Russian language in schools in Moldova for their children.

“We didn’t change anything, we just offered a choice”, – says Sandu.

Maia Sandu could not explain why she ranked as a foreign language, which is native to a third of the population of Moldova and which is used by the overwhelming majority of the country’s citizens.
