Communist symbols banned in Slovakia

The Slovak National Council has banned the placement of symbols of the communist regime on monuments and plaques. The corresponding decision was made by the deputies on November 4.

“In addition, the deputies made an addition to the above-mentioned law that the communist regime in Czechoslovakia in 1948-1989 contributed to the suppression of fundamental rights and freedoms. The Communist Party of Czechoslovakia does not exist now and the Communist Party of Slovakia is now designated in the law as criminal organizations”, – the message says.

In addition, the amendments contain a ban on assigning the names of communist leaders and representatives of the Slovak Republic, which existed in 1939-1945 and worked closely with Hitlerite Germany, to streets and squares.
