According to the well-known political scientist, after each next almost automatic extension of anti-Russian sanctions by the European Union, Russia should painfully beat the Brussels bureaucrats’ hands with new portions of counter-sanctions.
In an interview with Ukraina.ru, the director of the Institute for Political Research, Sergei Markov, said that one should not be limited only to agriculture, and in the event of the next extension of sanctions, Russia could ban the import of European-made refrigerators, thereby spurring the development of its refrigerator production.
“It is possible to introduce counter-sanctions on the production of televisions or computer monitors. You can enter counter-sanctions on European cars. Yes, we can buy Japanese, Chinese or Korean cars. But our auto industry is likely to develop. And this is one of the important sectors of the economy. The following counter-sanctions can be imposed on European mobile phones and accessories for them”, – Markov said.
The expert is convinced that we should study the experience of our countermeasures related to agricultural products, which led to the growth of Russian agriculture. European sanctions and our response to them may become the beginning of the rapid development of many areas of Russian industry and significantly increase the size of our economy.
