Lithuania continues to agitate neighbors not to buy electricity from BelNPP

The President of Lithuania called on the EU countries to stop importing energy from Belarus.

As reported by RuBaltic.ru, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda called on the leaders of the EU countries to abandon the import of electricity, which will be produced by the Belarusian nuclear power plant, built 50 kilometers from Vilnius.

“Now is the right time for the EU to make decisions that will restrict access to the EU market for electricity generated from unsafe sources of third countries that do not meet the highest safety standards”, – says Nauseda’s letter to European Council’s President Charles Michel and Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

The first power unit of the BelNPP was included in the unified energy system of Belarus on November 3. Lithuania recognized the power plant as a “national security threat” in 2017. The country has adopted a law banning the import of electricity produced at the BelNPP. Belarus claims that the station meets all safety requirements
