EU approved package of sanctions against Belarus, including Lukashenko

A diplomatic source in the EU institutions confirmed that on November 6 a decision of the EU Council is expected, as well as, probably, the publication of legal acts in the “Official Journal” of the EU.


According to Interfax, Radio Free Europe journalist Rikard Jozwiak said that the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU countries agreed on Wednesday another sanctions package for the so-called “falsification of election results” in Belarus and the use of violence against demonstrators.

“The EU ambassadors have just given the green light to freeze assets and ban the issuance of visas to Lukashenka and 14 other Belarusians. It will be published in the EU Official Journal on Friday”, -ohe wrote on Twitter.

Earlier, Peter Stano, the official representative of the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko would be included in this additional sanctions list.

“Yes, Lukashenko will be included in the new list, and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs spoke about this at his press conference after the meeting of the EU Council at the level of foreign ministers on Monday, October 12”, – the press secretary confirmed.
