Will the elections in Georgia be recognized – the State Department gives the last chance to the failed opposition

The U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi is setting the stage for possible protests against the backdrop of the Georgian opposition, which pleases the West, losing the parliamentary elections.

As News Front reported earlier, voting in Georgia took place last Saturday, October 31. There were 50 political formations in the race, of which only eight are in the legislative body.

The ruling party “Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia” won the elections. It was supported by 48.15% of voters. The United National Movement, founded by the fugitive ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili, came in second place with 27.14% of the vote. The level of support from the other parties did not exceed 4%. The Citizens Party received the least support – 1.33%. It managed to get into parliament by lowering the threshold from 3 to 1 percent.
Against the background of the defeat of the pro-Western opposition, the U.S. Embassy accused the Georgian authorities of “pressure on voters” and “erasing the boundaries between the ruling party and the state. These theses were borrowed by American diplomats from the observers of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.

“Although this is not enough to invalidate the results of the elections, the electoral process in Georgia is being harmed, which is unacceptable”, –  the communiqué says.

Thus, the United States is giving the green light to the Georgian opposition in organizing a new wave of protests and riots on the pretext that there are violations. The opposition began yesterday to set up a tent city under the parliament building. The first clashes with law enforcers were also recorded there.

“I want to protest as an ordinary citizen”, – said Khatia Decanoidze. – “Even if I am alone, I will stand by the Parliament.”

It is noteworthy that Decanoidze is not an ordinary citizen. She is one of the leaders of the United National Movement, and in 2015, through the efforts of Mikhail Saakashvili, she was appointed head of the National Police of Ukraine.
