The United States supports the deployment of Nordic peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh. This was announced by Robert O’Brien, Assistant to the President for National Security, speaking to the Armenian diaspora in Los Angeles.
“Any kind of Turkish mediation or peacekeeping is a failed initiative for the United States as well as for Armenia. We believe that both countries should agree to host Scandinavian peacekeepers. We are working with the Nordic governments on the issue of a peacekeeping force that could be deployed in the region to maintain the ceasefire”, – O’Brien said.
According to the U.S. Assistant to the President for National Security, “it is hard to imagine a sustainable ceasefire agreement” in Nagorno-Karabakh “without multinational peacekeeping forces or observers.
“Any kind of armed peacekeeping force should not include the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs, including the United States and neighbouring countries”, – he noted.
