The incident took place at a site in Varnitsa
The Moldovan police detained a man who sprayed tear gas towards participants in the Transnistrian conflict who were trying to block the entrance to a polling station for Transnistrian residents. This was reported during a briefing by Marin Maxian, Deputy Head of the General Police Commissariat of the Republic.
“The situation at the polling station in Varnitsa was tense after several citizens, including veterans of the Transnistrian conflict, tried to block access to it for Transnistrian voters. As a result of police intervention, access to the polling station was unblocked, and the man who sprayed tear gas in a clash with the veterans was detained”, – Maxian said. He called for calm, noting that law enforcers are monitoring the situation.
The situation in Varnitsa deteriorated after the presidential candidate, the leader of the Moldovan opposition pro-European “Dignity and Truth” platform, Andrei Nestase, called on groups of “tough men” to go to the polling stations opened on the right bank of the Dniester River on election day to prevent possible violations. Previously, he accused the authorities of their intention to falsify the elections at the expense of the vote of the Transnistrian people, who advocate rapprochement with Russia.
