Iranian Foreign Minister expressed concern over the presence of terrorists in the Karabakh region

Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran will not tolerate this at its borders.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed concern about the presence of representatives of terrorist groups in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. The Iranian Foreign Minister said on Sunday that Iran would not tolerate their presence on its borders. Zarif is quoted by the Tasnim agency as saying that Iran will not tolerate their presence on its borders.

“It is not in anyone’s interest”, –  the politician said in response to a question from journalists about the presence of terrorist groups in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

According to him, “today [representatives of terrorist groups] are not present in the border areas, but the probability of their presence in the immediate vicinity of the border [of Iran] is high, and Tehran has expressed its particular concern about this to the parties to the [conflict]”.

“During the talks we informed the representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as Russia and Turkey that Iran will not tolerate this”, –  the Foreign Minister added.

In addition, Zarif said that Tehran is waiting for the parties to respond to the proposed initiative to resolve the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. “We expect from the authorities of Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as from Russian and Turkish friends their views on this plan,” he said.

At the end of October, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as a special envoy, went on a trip to promote Tehran’s initiative to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis. The diplomat visited Baku, Moscow, Yerevan and Ankara.

The situation in the region escalated on 27 September, and active fighting began on the disputed territory. Both sides report deaths and injuries, including among the civilian population. Ceasefire agreements have been reached three times already, but almost immediately the parties to the conflict began to exchange mutual accusations of violations.
