British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has given in to expert pressure and is preparing to announce a national quarantine next week.
According to The Guardian, citing its own sources, it is not known at the moment how severe the restrictions will be. This issue will be discussed over the weekend. The government expects to take measures that will not cause serious damage to an already devastated economy.
Scientists, for their part, believe that the economic dimension is being overshadowed as the coronavirus is spreading faster than in the worst-case scenario forecast. Sir Patrick Vallance and Professor Chris Whitty, who lead the Scientific Advisory Group on Emergencies, have already presented the report to Johnson.
The experts are convinced that local blockages are not enough and that in winter the epidemic could take the lives of 85,000 people.
