The coronavirus outbreak was recorded among crew members of the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford.
According to the Stars and Stripes portal, for the first time cases of infection aboard a ship with a crew of around 2,700 people were reported on Thursday.
“The Department of Defense does not disclose the number of infected people at the unit, facility or geographic area level due to operational security”, – commented Jennifer Cragg, spokeswoman for the U.S. Navy Atlantic.
According to the official, the medics are keeping the situation under control. The ship has introduced rules for physical distance and the use of personal protective equipment. The crew follows all Pentagon recommendations and disease control and prevention.
USS Gerald R. Ford was launched in 2013. Ships of the same class are to replace Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, which have been in operation since 1975.
