In a few years’ time Ukraine will have a chance to receive a Membership Action Plan, but a number of conditions will have to be met.
This was reported by Egor Chernev, Head of the Permanent Delegation of the Supreme Rada to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, after negotiations with Mircea Joanet, Deputy Secretary General of the alliance.
According to Chernev, NATO is again promised to provide MAP, but in a few years’ time and subject to a number of reforms.
“First of all, this is, of course, the reform of the SSU, the introduction of parliamentary control over the security and defence sector and a new law on state secrets,” the deputy said. – Our Western partners do not say directly that they are preparing to admit Ukraine to NATO. But granting MAP automatically means that the country becomes a candidate and, after completion of all necessary reforms, joins the alliance.
