US Air Force attacks Taliban positions in Afghanistan

According to US Forces Afghanistan spokesman Colonel Sonny Leggett, five Taliban fighters were killed in the attack.

American warplanes attacked the positions of supporters of the radical movement “Taliban” in the province of Wardak, located in the centre of the country. This was reported by Afghan TV channel 1 TV on Monday, quoting a statement by the representative of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Colonel Sonny Leggett.

According to him, U.S. planes on the night of Monday “dealt a dotted blow to Taliban positions in Nerkh County, Wardak Province”. Five Taliban militants were killed in the attack, Leggett said.

The U.S. military added that the U.S. Air Force attack was conducted “in order to protect Afghan security forces and does not contradict the peace agreement between the U.S. and the Taliban in [the Qatari capital] Doha. “We reject the allegations of violations of the agreements reached in Doha and the killing of civilians [in attacks in Afghanistan]”, –  Leggett said.

Virtually at the same time as the American colonel’s statement, the representative of the Afghan Ministry of Defence said that “a counterattack by government forces in Wardak eliminated 26 radical supporters. The Defense Department spokesman did not mention the involvement of the US Air Force.

The previous attack by U.S. combat aircraft on Taliban positions in Afghanistan took place in Helmand Province on October 12.
