It was previously reported that Pyongyang and Beijing had reached an agreement to reopen trains across the common border.
The DPRK has not yet shown any visible signs of easing the restrictions on trains crossing the border with China that were introduced earlier this year as an anti-epidemic measure. This was reported to journalists at a briefing in Seoul on Monday by a representative of the Ministry of Unification of the Republic of Korea, Yeo Sang-gi.
On Monday, the Daily NK information portal, which specializes in North Korean issues, reported that Pyongyang and Beijing have reached an agreement to resume the movement of trains across the common border.
“The monitoring did not reveal any noticeable changes in the situation. Obviously it needs to be studied over a longer period of time”, – said the representative of the South Korean Ministry in charge of relations with the North.
The DPRK claims that no cases of infection have been reported in the country since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. However, since the beginning of 2020 the country has maintained strict restrictions on the movement of people and goods across its borders. Such measures cause significant damage to its economy, experts in Seoul note.
