Media: Venezuelan intelligence searches a building in Caracas where Spanish diplomats live

Earlier it was reported that Venezuelan opposition activist Leopoldo López left the residence of the Spanish ambassador, where he has been staying since late April 2019.

Members of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service began a search on Saturday night on a building in Caracas that is home to Spanish diplomats and security forces. This was reported on Sunday by the EFE agency with reference to witnesses.

It was previously reported that Venezuelan opposition activist Leopoldo López had left the residence of the Spanish ambassador in Caracas, where he has been staying since late April 2019. According to media reports, he has already left the country. The father of the opposition activist told EFE that López was going to go to Spain.

In 2015, he was sentenced to 13 years and 9 months in prison for organising anti-government demonstrations that ended in clashes and loss of life. In 2017, López was placed under house arrest, from where he then escaped. At the time, the opposition asserted that he did not intend to seek political asylum or leave the Bolivarian Republic.

In June 2019, López’s wife arrived in Spain with her daughter.
