Greek Foreign Minister hopes for a restart of bilateral relations after Lavrov’s visit

Nikos Dandias will meet with the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs in Athens on Monday.

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias hopes that the visit of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Athens on 26 October will lead to a resumption of relations between the two countries. This was announced by Dendyas in Parliament on Sunday, regarding foreign policy topics. His speech was distributed by the Press Service of the Greek Foreign Ministry.

“As for Russia, I very much hope for tomorrow’s visit of [Russian Foreign Minister] Sergei Lavrov to Athens. Restarting Greek-Russian relations is the right thing to do”, –  said Dendyas.

Nikos Dandias will meet with Sergei Lavrov in Athens on Monday, who will be on a working visit to Greece. The Greek Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on Friday that the head of the ministry intends to discuss bilateral cooperation in the economy and energy with his Russian counterpart, as well as international issues, including the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East, Cyprus and EU-Russia relations. As noted, the Foreign Ministers of the two countries will sign a joint memorandum on the celebration of the Year of History between Russia and Greece in 2021.

In turn, the press service of Greek Prime Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis said on Friday that the head of government will meet with Lavrov on Monday night at his residence “Megaro Maxima” (“Maxima Palace”).
