Television viewers watching the October 22 US televised debate believe Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden won, according to a poll conducted by SSRS.
The telephone poll, commissioned by Democratic-sympathetic CNN, by SSRS, involved 585 registered voters. The margin of error is 5.7 percentage points. The debates – the most recent with the participation of candidates in the run-up to the November 3 elections – were broadcast not only on CNN, but also on other major television networks and on the Internet.
According to the results of the study, 53% of voters who watched the debate declared Biden’s victory, 39% of viewers gave the victory to the current President, Republican Donald Trump. The majority (73%) of viewers also believed that Biden’s criticism of Trump was “mostly fair”, with about half (50%) agreeing that Trump’s attacks on Biden were also fair.
Debate victory in the eyes of public opinion does not guarantee electoral success. So, according to polls, Hillary Clinton won all three rounds of debates against Trump in 2016, but she still lost the election.
