Taiwan explained why they spent millions on American weapons

The authorities of partially recognized Taiwan are preparing for a potential armed confrontation with China, acquiring the American ammunition and artillery.

This was announced on Thursday, October 22, by Defense Minister Ian De-fa, commenting on the information on the next supply of weapons from the United States worth $1.8 billion.

The latest deal includes electronics, ammunition and artillery. In the future, the US Congress must approve the sale of drones and anti-ship missiles.

The Taiwanese minister emphasizes that the authorities “do not intend to participate in an arms race” with China. At the same time, he stressed that Taiwan is preparing for an “asymmetric war”.

“We will not participate in an arms race with the Chinese communists. We will make demands and develop fully in line with the strategic concept of powerful deterrence, defending our positions”, – the official said.
