Nigerian soldiers opened fire on protesters in the Nigerian city of Lagos.
There was a demonstration against police violence in the Lecca area. The protest was triggered by the activities of the SARS (Special Anti-Robbery Detachment), a police force whose members were involved in extortion, torture, harassment and murder. The unit itself was disbanded on 11 October.
During a protest action, Nigerian army personnel opened fire on demonstrators. Eyewitnesses claim that two people were injured in the shooting. Their condition is currently unknown.
At the same time, the press service of the Nigerian Armed Forces claims that no military personnel were present at the site of the demonstration.
