The Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the desecration of the Thessaloniki Memorial
According to the UNN with reference to the DW, unknown people desecrated the Holocaust memorial and two Jewish cemeteries in Greece, the Central Council of Jewish Communities in Greece reported.
“The memorial in Thessaloniki bears an offensive inscription. Another offensive inscription appeared in a Jewish cemetery in the same city. In addition, 4 graves were damaged in a Jewish cemetery on the island of Rhodes. The organisation called the desecrationists “supporters of restrictiveness and bigotry”, – the report says.
This “unacceptable act offends the memory of our fellow citizens and all victims of National Socialism” and “violates the values of democratic Greek society,” the ministry said. Athens will continue to fight for the strengthening of tolerance, the eradication of intolerance and against racism, the Foreign Ministry said.
