Trump’s special representative secretly flew to Damascus

The last known talks between the White House and Syrian officials in Damascus took place in 2010

According to Korrespondent, Anadolu news agency reported that earlier this year officials of Donald Trump’s administration held secret talks in Syria with representatives of President Bashar al-Assad on the release of American hostages.

“According to sources in the administration, Kash Patel, deputy assistant to Trump, and a high-ranking White House counterterrorism official flew to Syria. They met with Assad government officials whose identities remain unknown”, –  it said.

U.S. authorities are seeking the release of American journalist Austin Theis, who was captured in Syria in 2012, and American physician Majd Kamalmaz, who was detained in Damascus in 2017.
