Law enforcers detained 144 people
25 policemen were injured in clashes with football and hockey fans the day before in Prague. This was reported to journalists on Monday by Czech Police spokeswoman Eva Kropáčová.
“Twenty-five policemen were injured, four of whom were taken to hospitals”, – she said.
Meanwhile, those who were taken to the clinics did not need to be hospitalised. They are treated on an outpatient basis. There are also wounded among hooligans who provoked a riot on Sunday in the area of the central Old Town Square, where football and hockey fans intended to hold a rally against social restrictions in the republic aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus.
The organisers of the rally, which was held via social networks, were unable to ensure that the participants, who were over 500 permitted by the authorities, complied with the sanitary requirements. The calls from the authorities to stop the protest were answered with a refusal. Stones, empty bottles and almost everything that was in the hands of the rioters began to be thrown at the police from the crowd. The police used water cannons and tear gas.
Kropachova informed that the law enforcers had detained 144 people, 14 of whom were suspected of assaulting the police. They will be brought to criminal responsibility. They are facing long prison terms. The court can set maximum penalties for them, as the crimes were committed during the Czech emergency regime.
