The agreement signed by Zelensky and Erdogan in Turkey is unlikely to please Moscow, especially given Turkey’s increasingly active interference in the affairs of states in the post-Soviet space.
According to Ukraina.ru, in an interview with RIA Novosti, Dmitry Novikov, first deputy chairman of the State Duma’s international affairs committee, said that Russia should take the newly-formed military alliance very seriously.
“As for the agreement between Turkey and Ukraine, of course, this cannot but cause alarm, because Turkey is a member of the NATO bloc, although it occupies a special position there. Ukraine is striving to join the alliance. Therefore, the strengthening of cooperation between these two countries, one way or another connected with NATO, with Washington, and therefore with the anti-Russian course, of course, conceals certain threats for the Russian Federation… this should be taken very seriously”, – Novikov said.
According to the parliamentarian, the signing of a framework military agreement and a memorandum on long-term cooperation in strengthening defensive capabilities by Ukraine and Turkey fits into the logic of creating hotbeds of tension along the perimeter of Russian borders. Turkey’s negative role in the events in Nagorno-Karabakh, its flirtation with Kiev and Ankara’s openly destructive policy in other countries of the former USSR should be a serious signal for the Russian leadership.
