London and Manchester will introduce new restrictive measures due to the pandemic

In the counties of Grand Manchester and Lancashire, bars, pubs and gyms can be closed, and contacts between people who do not live under the same roof can be banned

The UK government is preparing to introduce new restrictive measures in London, Manchester and Preston to combat COVID-19. According to the Sky News channel, on Thursday Deputy Health Minister Helen Watley told a group of deputies representing London in the British Parliament that a second (“high”) level of threat of the virus will be introduced in the capital on Saturday night.

During the day, the Deputy Head of the British Health Department is also scheduled to meet with representatives from the counties of Grand Manchester and Lancashire, where restrictions may be imposed in the coming days to meet the third (‘very high’) threat level, which means closing bars, pubs and gyms, and prohibiting contact between people who do not live under the same roof.

“We are at a key stage in the fight against COVID-19 in London. The virus is spreading rapidly in all parts of the city, and soon [in a week] an average of more than 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants will be detected, because in some areas this figure is already above that level. The number of people admitted to hospitals and patients placed in intensive care units is increasing. Unfortunately, the daily number of deaths among [infected] Londoners has also started to rise again”, – said Mayor Sadik Khan in a televised message, emphasising that during the day the government will officially announce that the threat level in the capital is about to rise.

Government experts estimate that during the spring peak of the epidemic up to 17% of Londoners could survive COVID-19, which is the highest rate in the kingdom.
