Italy does not wish to isolate Russia

In the friendly chorus of European anti-Russian rhetoric, timid voices are heard to defend mutually beneficial relations with Russia

According to TASS, in an interview published in La Reppublica on Thursday, the Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Mayo, said that Italy, adhering to a common sanctions line with European partners, does not want to isolate Russia.

“We voted for the sanctions, we use this tool against individuals, but not for our own purposes, to hit the Russian people. I told Lavrov that we were hoping for an investigation that would clarify the circumstances surrounding the attempt on Navalny’s life. At the same time, in our country 32% of GDP depends on exports. Italy does not want to isolate Russia”, –  said Di Mayo.

The Italian minister believes that Russia, as a member of the OPCW, can have all the information “on which an internal investigation should be based”.
