Austria does not want to see Turkey in the EU due to the situation in the Mediterranean

Austria has threatened to stop negotiations for Turkey’s membership in the European Union because it is exploring gas in the disputed part of the Mediterranean.

This is stated by Chancellor Sebastian Course in his Twitter account:

“I fully condemn the new research of the Oruç Reis in Greek territorial waters and the discovery of Varosha in Cyprus. Both steps are in clear violation of international law. If Turkey continues to violate international law, it will be threatened with EU sanctions. Also, negotiations on Turkey’s membership in the EU must stop.”
