Maia Sandu wants to take the presidency without having a reliable management team behind her who can keep the situation in Moldova under control.
A key opposition presidential candidate is campaigning to ignore her failure as prime minister. Sandu took over the government after the pro-Western bloc ACUM merged with the Socialist Party. The leaders of ACUM succeeded in taking control of the executive branch of government, but in the end they provoked another political crisis. Sandu, bypassing parliament, tried to give herself the right to nominate candidates for the post of prosecutor general. Then the deputies announced a vote of no confidence in the government and dismissed it.
Experts believed that Sandu deliberately provoked such an outcome. Her premiership did not bring results. In order not to bring down the ratings with such incompetence, Sandu decided to sacrifice a high position and again went into opposition.
“Her government was the most unprepared and incompetent”, – says former Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Muravsky.
Sandu’s cabinet lasted 5 months and did nothing, the politician notes. The problem is, Sandu’s team hasn’t changed since then. Having won the presidency, she will provoke a deficit of qualified personnel in the leadership, which is dangerous for the republic. This will cause serious damage to the country amid the economic crisis and the coronavirus pandemic.
The situation in the team of the incumbent President Igor Dodon looks exactly the opposite.
“We see how Dodon’s team acts in an extremely difficult situation”, – says Muravsky.
“Despite the pandemic, drought, local problems, the government fulfills its financial obligations to the population. There are no delays in pensions or salaries. It keeps the situation under control”.
