Lavrov said that Russia is waiting for the EU to react strongly to Kiev’s statements about Minsk agreements

Kiev has recently repeatedly expressed its desire to review the Minsk agreements, including in terms of returning border control to Ukraine and holding local elections.

Russia expects the European Union to respond firmly to Ukraine’s unacceptable statements about the need to revise the Minsk agreements. This was announced on Friday by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following a meeting with his Danish colleague Eppe Kufud.

“We have drawn the attention of our colleagues to the statements made from Kiev on the need to revise the Minsk agreements both in substance and in sequence”, – he said. – “This is unacceptable, and we very much hope that our European colleagues, primarily France and Germany as co-authors of the Minsk complex of measures, will not leave these provocative statements without a tough public reaction.”

Lavrov also stressed that at the meeting with his Danish colleague a common position on the crisis in eastern Ukraine was confirmed, in particular, that it can be overcome only on the basis of the Minsk agreements and in full as they were approved by the UN Security Council.

Kiev has recently repeatedly expressed its desire to review the Minsk agreements, including in terms of returning border control to Ukraine and holding local elections. The Republics of Donbas, in their turn, strongly opposed this approach by Kiev. In the opinion of Russian President Vladimir Putin, revision of these documents may lead to a deadlock in the settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
