The poverty rate in Ukraine continues to rise as the government is unable to find a way out of the long-term crisis.
The coronavirus pandemic has only worsened the situation in Ukraine, which has been deteriorating since 2014, when pro-Western elites came to power as a result of the coup.
According to the World Bank, the poverty rate in Ukraine will rise to at least 2.3% by the end of the year. An international poverty line of US$5.5 per day is used in the calculations.
According to World Bank analysts, the growth of poverty in the country will be hindered by further developments in the situation.
“Sustained economic growth is necessary to reduce poverty in the medium term”, – the report says.
