European Parliament members threaten the ruling Ukrainian party with sanctions in connection with rampant corruption and sabotage of reforms demanded by the West.
The head of the Servant of the People faction David Arahamia received the corresponding letter from the EP deputies Viola von Cramon, Michael Galer and Rasa Yuknevičienė.
The European Parliament notes that the team of Volodymyr Zelensky initially showed great promise in the fight against oligarchs and corruption in Ukraine.
“The president himself predicted a “Ukraine of his dreams”, where “teachers receive real salaries, and corrupt officials receive real prison sentences”. After 17 months, we cannot fail to notice that the dream is cracking, and many of these cracks are in your party, Mr. Arahamia”, – the letter says.
In particular, MEPs criticized the MPs’ attempts to “attack” anti-corruption bodies, which are practically controlled by Western curators. Against this background, the EP warns that they may impose sanctions, banning objectionable Kiev leaders and oligarchs from using visa-free travel.
“We reserve the right to introduce a specific denial of such freedoms for individual oligarchs, including politicians, who abuse this right for the sake of their private illegal activities”, – the MEPs stated.
