Continuing to sabotage the implementation of the Minsk Agreements, the Ukrainian administration insists on an immediate meeting of the “Norman Quartet”.
In December 2019, when the previous “Norman” summit was held, the leaders of Russia, France, Germany and Ukraine confirmed the need to implement a set of measures stipulated in the Minsk agreements. However, now Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Reznikov states that Kiev will not enshrine in the constitution the special status of the People’s Republics of Donbass, once again demanding that Minsk be rewritten.
The situation was assessed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He questioned the prospect that with the current Ukrainian leadership it would be possible to make progress in resolving the Donbas conflict.
“At least for the reason that Zelensky and Reznikov are openly announcing it”, – said Lavrov.
From the very beginning, Kiev did not plan to fulfill its obligations, said Ukrainian politician Alexander Golub. According to him, Kiev has not left the Minsk format just because it is necessary for the West to continue the sanctions pressure on Russia.
“What Reznikov says is remarkable, as it becomes more difficult for officials of this level to hide their real goals. Their time is passing, harsh reality is breathing down their backs, and the future of the country is becoming increasingly unobvious”, – Golub says.
Every time we talk about the need to comply with the Minsk agreements, it becomes clear that the settlement process is at an impasse, believes Daniil Bogatyrev, an expert from the Institute for Policy Analysis and Management.
“Kiev does not want to reconcile with millions of disloyal voters, it will not be possible to restore the economy of the region either, spontaneous massacres due to previous grievances are inevitable, given the military actions”, – explains the expert.
