By provoking a crisis in its relations with Russia, Ukraine has lost markets which will now be extremely difficult for it to conquer again.
News Front previously reported that Russia had already decided to close its trade office in Kiev, which had been operating until now, although its operations were formal. Although Ukraine continues its trade relations with Russia, accusing it of ‘aggression’, imports of Ukrainian products into Russia have fallen by around 75%. The $15 billion markets that were opened up did not last long. They were taken over by Russian entrepreneurs, which means there is no room for Ukrainian products.
According to the Kiev writer Igor Lesev, Ukraine should have reached political reconciliation with Russia before talking about resuming economic cooperation. However, high-tech cooperation between the countries has been lost forever, he says.
“As for simple goods like food products, under current geopolitical circumstances, there is no point in investing in them”, – Lesev said in his commentary to Ukraina.ru.
He compares his country’s relations with Russia with Indo-Pakistani or Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. These countries could trade, because it is much more profitable than constant confrontation.
“But in the absence of a political settlement between the states, there will be no economic cooperation”, – he stated.
