The office claims that the Armenian side is recruiting them into its army under the guise of “volunteers”.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan said on Thursday that Armenia is engaging foreign mercenaries, especially from the Middle East, in hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.
“In response to the comment of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry on the transfer of foreign mercenaries to the [Nagorno-Karabakh] conflict zone, we would like to note that we have repeatedly expressed concern about the widespread use of such means by Armenia”, – says the comment of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, published on its website. According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, mercenaries from the Middle East are especially actively involved.
The Foreign Ministry claims that Armenia “transfers foreign mercenaries to the occupied Azerbaijani lands as part of its policy of illegal settlement” and “attracts into the ranks of its army under the guise of ‘volunteers’, using in combat operations against Azerbaijan.
On Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed concern over the information received about the transfer of militants from Syria and Libya to the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict for participation in hostilities. In a comment from the Foreign Ministry it was noted that these processes lead not only to an even greater escalation of tensions in the conflict zone, but also create long-term threats to the security of all countries in the region.
