Liberals in Germany initiate a law in the Bundestag similar to the Magnitsky Act

According to Der Spiegel, representatives of other German parties have also called for sanctions in the Navalny case.

This was stated by the head of liberals Christian Lindner in an interview with Der Spiegel published on Thursday.

“Specifically, we will take the initiative in the Bundestag to [adopt] the so-called Magnitsky Act”,  –  he said. Lindner argued that it should not be allowed “to freely enjoy the privileges of an open society in the West for supporters of law and human rights violations.”

According to Der Spiegel, representatives of other German parties represented in parliament have also called for sanctions in the Navalny case, including Niels Schmid, foreign policy expert of the Social Democrat faction in the Bundestag, Omid Nuripur, MP for the Green, and Norbert Rettgen, chairman of the parliamentary foreign policy committee.
