US flag burned at a protest against Pompeo’s visit to Greece

The US flag was burned by protesters against the arrival of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on 28 September at a rally in Thessaloniki.

A group of citizens burned a US flag near the US consulate in Thessaloniki on Tsimiski Street. The action took place during a rally against Pompeo’s visit to Greece. The rally began near the monument to Eleftherios Venizelos, after which the march headed towards the US Embassy.
Protesters put up posters with the inscription “Pompeo Go Home” at the entrance to the shopping centre near the embassy. At this time a group of activists burned the American flag. There were no confrontations with the police until then.
Recall that on 28 September Pompeo arrived in Thessaloniki to discuss bilateral cooperation between the US and Greece, particularly in the area of defence.
