The meeting was held at the request of former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.
French President Emmanuelle Macron, who met with former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya on Tuesday, promised to help his country organize a dialogue to resolve the political crisis in Belarus. This was stated by the Belarusian opposition leader to journalists after the meeting.
“He promised to do everything possible to help in the negotiations to overcome the political crisis in our country”, – said Tikhanovskaya. The meeting was held at her request.
At a press conference in Vilnius on Monday, Makron emphasised the need for mediation in organising dialogue between the authorities and the opposition. “We suggested that it should be carried out by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and France will contribute to ensuring that this mediation can develop,” he said.
According to Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius, the very fact that Makron met with Tikhanovska is a clear demonstration of Paris’ support for representatives of Belarusian civil society and the opposition.
