Human rights defenders reported that about 340 people were detained at rallies in Belarus on 27 September

According to human rights defenders, about 260 people were detained in Minsk.

Law enforcement officers of Belarus detained more than 340 protesters, who took place on 27 September in various cities of the republic. The website of the human rights centre “Vesna”, unregistered by the Belarusian authorities, cites this data on Monday.

According to human rights defenders, about 260 people were detained in Minsk and about 80 in other regions of the country. Detentions were carried out in Gomel, Mogilev, Bobruisk, Zhodino, Svetlogorsk, Novopolotsk, Molodechno, Lida and other Belarusian cities.

The opposition earlier called for a march entitled “People’s Inauguration” to be held on 27 September by Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, an ex-presidential candidate who lost the election to Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, according to official data from the CEC. The reason for this was the ceremony of swearing Lukashenko under oath, which was not announced in advance, held on September 23. Sunday’s march on the 50th day of protests against the results of the presidential elections in Belarus, which took place on 9 August, was the longest in the distance covered by the participants.
