NATO refuses to respond to Russian proposals to clarify aviation safety agreements

Moscow’s inquiries remain unanswered, and such a situation, according to a representative of the department, does not suit Russia at all.

According to FAN, in an interview with the RT TV channel, the head of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, General of the Army Valery Gerasimov, said that NATO and the United States ignored the RF proposals to revise the agreements on flight safety to prevent dangerous situations in the air and at sea.

“We suggested at one time – a year and two ago – the leadership of both NATO and the US armed forces to consider issues and clarify existing agreements. Over the past month, we have observed flights of about 30 NATO strategic aircraft near our borders”.

According to Gerasimov, the existing agreements do not indicate some important details – for example, the intervals and the permissible distance for the convergence of aircraft and ships.

“We do not want any incidents that can lead to conflict situations. Therefore, our military pilots and commanders of naval ships behave with restraint and in accordance with the current international legal documents”, – Gerasimov stressed.
