The German Minister of Economy supported the construction of Nord Stream 2

According to Peter Altmaier, the natural gas pipeline is important in connection with the transition to renewable energy in Germany.

In an interview with the Handelsblatt newspaper published on Friday, German Economics Minister Peter Altmaier said he considered it important to complete the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

“I have always maintained the position that it is problematic to question projects that have been oriented towards many decades every couple of months”, –  he said, –  “We believe that the volumes of gas that will have to be imported to Europe will increase. This is due to the reduction of gas production in the EU. At the same time, in the transition period following the abandonment of coal and nuclear power, gas will play a major role in the energy supply. We need to ask ourselves where this gas should come from.”

At the same time Peter Altmaier emphasised that the Nord Stream 2 decision affects “all of Europe and even the entire West”.
