During a speech at the UN General Assembly, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said that negotiations with the Taliban* alone would not be enough.
“We have shown our commitment and courage as a state and as a society and made the difficult decision to start direct negotiations with the Taliban. But this is not enough. To achieve lasting peace in Afghanistan, it is necessary to eradicate the problem of terrorism that is plaguing the entire region”, – he said.
He stressed that the Afghan people want one thing – a ceasefire on their land.
