The Former Commander of the US Coast Guard Admiral Paul Tsukunft reported problems with awareness of the situation in the Arctic, saying that the strengthening of the US and NATO military presence in the Arctic, including campaigns of submarines, destroyers, flights of strategic bombers and other military activity does not have a significant effect on intelligence and surveillance in the region.
Therefore, according to Tsukunft, the allies should invest more money in the development in the Arctic, given the activity of Russia and China.
Washington should demand from all NATO countries to increase spending on collective security to 2.5% of GDP to make life easier for the United States.
