Security guard Heiko Maas contracted the coronavirus.
A security guard at the German Foreign Minister’s office, Heiko Maasc, contracted the coronavirus and the minister went into quarantine, although his first test was negative. This was reported on Wednesday by the press service of the German Foreign Office.
“Foreign Minister Maas went into quarantine today under the Infection Protection Act because one of his personal guards was found to have COVID-19. The first COVID test carried out today was negative”, – the press office said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently investigating what measures still need to be taken and whether there is a potential threat to other citizens.
Last week, Maas participated in a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
At the beginning of the pandemic, German Chancellor Angela Merkel spent two weeks in self-isolation and all three of her coronavirus tests were negative.
