The Venezuelan leader said that Ivan Duque had “lost touch with reality”.
The President of Colombia, Ivan Duque, poses a greater threat to his country than the coronavirus because it has lost touch with reality. This opinion was expressed by Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro on Sunday.
“There is a bigger problem in Colombia than the coronavirus. Her name is Ivan Duque, a character who has lost touch with reality, thinking about his extremist ideas”, – said Maduro, whose speech was broadcast on public television.
According to the Venezuelan leader, hundreds of people in Colombia have been killed, injured and missing.
The situation in Venezuela has sharply escalated since 23 January 2019 when the leader of the opposition, Juan Guaydo, whose appointment as Speaker of Parliament was annulled by the Supreme Court two days earlier, declared himself Acting President. He was recognized as interim head of state by the USA, joined by the Lima Group countries (excluding Mexico), the Organisation of American States and a majority of the European Union. President Maduro called it a coup attempt and announced that he had broken off diplomatic relations with the United States. Russia, Belarus, China, Cuba, Iran, Nicaragua, Syria and Turkey spoke in favour of it.
